A person was rescued from an encampment Sunday night at the Mon Wharf.

Calls came in around 9:30 p.m. about several people trapped by the rising water, but when first responders arrived, they found only one person.

The man was rescued by ladder and directed to a shelter.

Two more people were found in the area around Point State Park and were also sent to a shelter.

On the Big K Morning Show County Councilwoman Bethany Hallam questioned why there wasn't a more proactive approach, knowing the waters would rise.

“this is the overarching problem is that they have no problem rushing to clear and encampment when people are complaining that they don’t’ want to see unhoused people downtown, but when it comes to their lives being in danger, that they really need help, where are they?” asked Hallam.

Former Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald tells Larry and Marty there can be more proactive measures for the flooding prone bathtub and Mon Wharf.

“You obviously want to have Public Safety along with your human service departments working in areas, wherever that might be to . . . get people out of danger and get them into safe situations,” said Fitzgerald.

The bathtub area is slated for rehab following a $142 million federal investment for the Parkway East.

A Flood Advisory is in effect through Thursday along the Ohio River. Rising water is also covering the North Shore Riverwalk and the Tenth Street Bypass. The river is expected to crest tomorrow afternoon at 22 and a half feet.

The Tenth Street Bypass is currently closed.
