A toddler has serious facial injuries after a pit bull attack Sunday afternoon in Knoxville.

Police and medics were sent to the 200 block of Moore Avenue just after 1:30 p.m.

Homeowners called 911 after their dog bit a 2-year-old boy.

Witnesses described the dog as food-aggressive and reports suggest the child may have approached the dog's food bowl.

As adults tried to pull the dog away, it ran out of the home.

The boy was last listed in stable condition with injuries to his face.

Both police and Animal Care and Control searched for but initially did not find the dog, a 2-year-old gray pit bull.

On Monday, Pittsburgh Public Safety said the dog was located by Pittsburgh Animal Care & Control.

The homeowners surrendered the dog to Humane Animal Rescue.
