Pitt Football junior defensive lineman Dayon Hayes has been charged with simple assault after an alleged domestic incident.
According to a criminal complaint, the incident happened in the East Hills neighborhood of Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon.
Hayes and his girlfriend, the mother his child, got into an argument, with 911 hearing a struggle while on the phone.
A female could be heard telling a male to leave the residence.
The complaint goes on to say the victim was covered with bleach and Hayes grabbed her hair but she was able to escape because she was wearing a wig.
When police arrived, they noticed a red bruise on the victim’s leg that was from Hayes allegedly slamming the door on her thigh.
Hayes was arrested on Sunday evening
Pitt Head Coach Pat Narduzzi released the following statement on Monday:
“The incident involving Dayon Hayes is incredibly disappointing and concerning. I take all disciplinary matters very seriously, and that is especially the case with situations of this kind. Our players know they are accountable for their actions, both on and off the field. I’ve conveyed this to Dayon, who will be immediately subject to team disciplinary measures in addition to any legal consequences that may arise. The details of that discipline will remain a private matter.”

Over his career, Hayes hast 26 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one pass defended and one forced fumble.
