Hundreds of University of Pittsburgh students are scrambling to adjust after Pitt announced it is ending its housing arrangement with the Hampton Inn on Hamlet Street.
Students who were assigned to live at the Hampton Inn this fall will now be moved to other on-campus housing after Pitt announced its lease with the hotel will end this summer.
In a statement to KDKA Radio, university spokesperson Jared Stonesifer said, "The demand for a Pitt education has never been higher," adding that the university is exploring housing options to meet that demand, including plans for a new residence hall at Fifth and Ruskin avenues.
Pitt's partnership with the Hampton Inn began in fall 2025, when more than 200 freshmen were housed on multiple floors of the South Oakland hotel.
