Since Monday night, sportscasters and writers, listeners and viewers have universally praised the late Stan Savran.
It's been an outpouring of appreciation and admiration for one of the city's best known sports talk show host. Those who worked with Stan say he was a tireless professional.
He had strong opinions and could say the hard thing, but in a way people respected. People who knew him say Stan was a kind friend and gentleman.
Many who watched or heard Stan's broadcasts were regulars and for good reason. He had something to say, something worth hearing. For 46 years, Stan shared his unique insights and expert analysis as the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates combined for 11 world championships.
We were lucky to have him for nearly five decades. We send our condolences to the Savran family.
