Pittsburgh Police say they have received about 215 reports of stolen guns this year. Compare that to 156 guns reported stolen at this time last year - a 38% jump.

Detective Russell Cain says oftentimes they're stolen from unlocked cars, other times, people are just plain negligent.

”We’ve had people report their guns stolen while it was not allowed in a bar. ‘So, I went across the street and I stuck my gun up in a tree.’ We’ve had other people say, ‘I was on my way to work. I can’t take my gun to work, so I stuck it under the bushes on the North Side.’”

Free gun locks are available at all Pittsburgh Police stations.
