
Police say at least two people in Pittsburgh have been tricked into handing over large sums of money in a scam targeting seniors.
In one instance, a 70-year-old woman was alerted her laptop had been hacked.
She contacting what she thought was Apple Support her call was transferred to another claiming to be a PNC fraud specialist who convinced her to withdraw $22,000 to buy Bitcoin at a convenience store.
A similar scam happened to a 72-year-old woman who was told her Apple account was hacked and used for child pornography.
She later withdrew $7,000 to purchase Bitcoin at a convenience store. Police are encouraging anyone who may have fallen victim to the scam to call 911.
