UPDATE: Pittsburgh International Airport says power has been restored and the checkpoint area has reopened.
“Systems are coming back online and flights are departing and arriving.”
Officials are telling passengers to check with their airline for flight status.
Quickly moving, heavy storms knocked out power for thousands of customers around Southwestern PA Thursday afternoon.
Duquesne Light is reporting over 30,000 outages and First Energy has over 10,000 outages around the region.
Pittsburgh International Airport is reporting an outage that impacted its operations.
“A lightning strike to Duquesne Light power distribution impacted both electrical systems to our microgrid and main grid electrical feeds,” the Airport said in a statement.

Duquesne Light expects to have power restored to many customers this evening, but could last longer.
Backup generators have restored some power to the Airport while crews work to get everything up and running.
Heavy winds knocked down trees in several areas, blocking roads and taking out power.
Many stop lights are out. If you run into an inactive stop light, treat it like a stop sign.
