Rent is going up in the Pittsburgh area, but not at the same rate in other parts of the U.S.

Research from two sources differ, but both show rental prices increasing.

CoStar Group says they were up about 6% from January 2020 through March of 2022. Redfin says rents have jumped over 15% since May 2021.

The increases were larger in Washington County, 7.7% and Westmoreland by 8.1%. Experts interviewed by the Tribune-Review say it is more expensive for landlords to buy, renovate and maintain properties and they're passing on some of the costs to tenants.

Another factor is strong demand and a limited supply of rental units.
