Longtime Pittsburgh television personality Dee Thompson has died

A fixture on Pittsburgh television has died.

DeHaven “Dee” Thompson, a longtime Pittsburgh sportscaster and news reporter and anchor for 35 years at WPXI Channel 11, has died, the station announced Sunday morning.

Thompson started his television career at WTAE Channel 4 before being hired by Channel 11 in 1975.

He's credited with creating the Fifth Quarter, a postgame show following Pittsburgh Steelers games, he also was known for his reports in the field during many a weather conditions in the morning.

He retired in 2009.

Thompson, the Oil City native was 84 years old.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Saul-Gabauer Funeral Home at 273 Route 68 in Rochester.
