City Council considering limits on where new vape shops can open up in Pittsburgh.
Members held a meeting today on proposed changes that would prevent any new vape shops from opening within 500 feet of a school.
Councilmember Bobby Wilson is spearheading the proposed changes.
“I think individuals that are in favor of this legislation, we’re definitely aligned and its good too hear, especially some of those stories of people impacted by these vape shops," said Wilson.
Among those testifying were groups concerned about the proliferation of vape shops near school bus stops.
One man told council there are seven shops within 150-feet of his residence in Downtown Pittsburgh.
The man also said he watches crowds of school-aged students walking into vape shops every morning.
The proposed changes would also prevent any new stores from being self-service shops, and they would have to be closed from 11pm to 9am.
