The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority is on the receiving end a loan from the state to make wastewater collection improvements in a number of communities.

The Wolf administration granted the loan of $7,750,000 to be used to rehabilitate more than seven miles of wastewater collection line in the Brighton Heights, Hazelwood and South Side neighborhoods of Pittsburgh.

The goal of the project is to reduce the amount of wastewater sent into the Monongahela and Ohio rivers.

The money is part of a broader $178 million investment by the state across 11 counties.

"This continued focus on improving and investing in our infrastructure is vital for strong communities,” said Governor Wolf. “Partnering with community leaders to make these investments, which ensure increased access to clean drinking water and provide stable environments for Pennsylvanians to work and live, is paramount to our regrowth as a commonwealth.”

The funding comes from various sources through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST).
