A plan to renovate Downtown Pittsburgh's Market Square now has the backing of the city's Historic Review Commission.
Downtown leaders say Market Square is due for a facelift, and the Pittsburgh Historic Review Commission agrees.
Commission members on Wednesday unanimously approved a proposal that would include a new year-round structure for seating and programming.
It also would limit traffic to the north end of the square while banning parking altogether to allow more space for outdoor dining.
The re-design would also add more seating and trees along Market Street to make it more pedestrian friendly.
The price tag of the rehab is anywhere from $12 million to $20 million.
Officials hope to have the renovations completed in time for the NFL draft, which is coming to Pittsburgh in April 2026.
