Police car chase ends in crash at intersection of East Liberty and Frankstown

PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — Early on Saturday, Jan. 9, around 2 a.m., Pittsburgh Police officers in Zone 5 located a vehicle they believed to have been involved with an armed carjacking from Friday evening.

The car was tagged on Race Street and then followed by the police.


When officers activated lights and sirens, the car raced off at high speeds and ultimately crashed near East Liberty Boulevard and Frankstown Avenue.

The vehicle ignited because of the crash, but the fire was extinguished.

The male passenger and male driver were extracted safely from the wreckage.

The two vehicle occupants were transported to a local hospital, but the severity of any injuries is unknown.

An investigation is ongoing for the incident.
