Popular Pittsburgh restaurant hit with Consumer Alert

Mice and cleanliness issues found

A popular Pittsburgh restaurant was hit with a Consumer Alert after an inspection last week.

The alert was issued for Murray Avenue Grill in Squirrel Hill  after 13 total violations were reported, including three considered to be “high-risk”.

High-risk violations included at least two dead mice found along with fresh droppings inside a cardboard box of plastic wrap. That wrap was thrown away.

Rodent droppings were also found inside a bus bin holding clean lids and along wall, floors and shelves in the basement, the inside of a walk-in cooler and a few other areas.

Inspectors say that nesting material was found, along with an access point for the mice to get into the building from the outside and two buckets collecting condensation was identified as a water source.

Liquor bottles were found with dead insects found floating inside.

Inspectors also found dirty food contact surfaces including a slicer blade, a fry punch and black “mold-like” material found on the kick plate of the ice machine.

Both the mice issue and cleaning and sanitation issues were repeat violations.

As of Monday afternoon, the Consumer Alert for Murray Ave.
Grill is still active.
