Steelers depth chart-QB order, the surprises & rookies

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers practice was closed in Latrobe on Wednesday, but it didn’t stop them from releasing a first depth chart of the season. Here are the surprises, where the QBs stack, the rookies and more.

Quarterbacks

It’s always the first story, where do the quarterbacks line up. Obviously, Aaron Rodgers is the starter. How it lined up behind him:

  • 2. Mason Rudolph
  • 3. Will Howard
  • 4. Drew Allar

Wide receiver

Roman Wilson is listed as a starter with DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman, which is exactly what we’ve seen at training camp so far. The three back-up receivers:

  • Ben Skowronek-acting special teams captain at the end of 2025
  • Germie Bernard-2nd round pick
  • Kaden Wetjen-4th round pick and 1st team kick and punt returner on this depth chart

Running back

Interesting that Kaleb Johnson is listed as the third-team (behind Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle) and Travis Homer (a noted special teams key contributor( is fifth team with rookie Eli Heidenreich. Both Homer and Heidenreich work as the quarterback, if you will, calling the snap on the first and second-team kick units.

Offensive line

It’s the same as we’ve seen the entire camp, left to right, Troy Fautanu, Mason McCormick, Zach Frazier, Spencer Anderson and Dylan Cook. The backups are

  • LT-Broderick Jones, who has competed throughout the entire camp
  • LG-Gennings Dunker-3rd round pick
  • C-Ryan McCollum
  • RG-Brock Hoffman-free agent signee who played with Mike McCarthy in Dallas
  • RT-Max Iheanachor-1st round pick

On defense the biggest surprise might be up the middle with second-year Yahya Black listed as the starting nose tackle. Free agent veteran Sebastian Joseph-Day is the back-up nose with Keeanu Benton listed behind Cam Heyward. Rookie Gabriel Rubio (6th round pick) listed as the back-up to Derrick Harmon at DE.

Middle linebacker

Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson are the starters with Cole Holcomb and Carson Bruener with veteran Malik Harrison as third-team.

No surprises at outside linebacker with TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith as starters with Nick Herbig and Jack Sawyer as the backups.

Secondary labeling

It’s probably best to just list the depth chart for the defense noting Joey Porter, Junior and Jalen Ramsey haven’t practiced and DeShon Elliott is limited at safety to this point.

CB—Porter-1, Asante Samuel, Jr-2, D’Shawn Jamison-3

Nickel—Ramsey-1, Brandon Echols-2, Donte Kent-3

CB—Jamel Dean-1, Daylen Everette, Doneiko Slaughter-3

S—Elliott-1, Robert Spears-Jennings-2, Sebastian Castro-3

S—Jaquan Brisker-1, Jack Henderson-2, Devan Boykin-3
