Potomac Avenue to have periodic closures through July

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio KDKA) — The Department of Public Works announced Friday that Potomac Avenue will be undergoing work by Columbia Gas, which will cause numerous closures through the end of June and July.

While not a Public Works initiative, the Department signed off on Columbia Gas doing the work.

So Potomac Avenue will be closed off regularly between Banksville Road and Hillsview Terrace.

The closures will be active from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and sometimes on Saturdays.

However, the closures are only expected to last until sometime in July.

Columbia Gas crews will be working to replace gas lines.

Closures will be mostly one-lane restrictions, but complete road closures might be used in extreme situations.

Workers have experienced speeding drivers and encroaching motorists, so closing two lanes might be necessary for the safe completion of the project.

Detours will not be posted since the closures will be sporadic.

Drivers can, however, use Banksville Road, McMonagle Avenue, Carnahan Road, and Greentree Road to maneuver around the line installation.
