New tech on PPS buses will help catch drivers passing them illegally

Pittsburgh Public Schools is cracking down on cars illegally passing their buses.

New camera technology from bus patrol is now on the side of all 150 PPS buses. It will record those who pass the bus illegally and forward it to local law enforcement. That driver will then get a ticket in the mail, which start at $300.

Superintendent Dr. Wayne Walters has this to say to drivers.

“Now you know. Act accordingly, or you will be penalized. Our student safety is paramount. As motorists on the road, you need to follow the law.”

A pilot program on 19 buses in the district over the Spring caught over 350 violations in just about 90 days.
