Anyone living in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and the surround areas can now learn online about backyard composting through the Pennsylvania Resources Council's webinars this February.

The webinars last one hour and the benefits of backyard composting will be taught, including the overall process, methods for setting up a compost pile, proper maintenance and ways to use finished compost.

"You can compost for a greener, healthier world, and it's easier than you think," according to PRC Education Program Coordinator Nancy Martin.

"Nearly a quarter of your waste stream is compostable, so it's vital that organic matter be returned to the soil and not tied up in a plastic bag and sent to the landfill. Composting makes this possible."

On Wednesday, February 9, the webinar runs from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. The next session is on Thursday, February 24 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.

The fee to attend the webinar is $70 and includes a FreeGarden EARTH compost bin, which can hold 82 gallons.
