He spent 58 years as the Voice of the Dukes.
Longtime Duquesne University basketball announcer Ray Goss has passed away at the of age 89.
One of his partners at Duquesne, Alex Panormios, tells the Big K Morning Show that Goss was a mentor and a good friend.
“Ray has been around a long time . . . most people know Ray as just the voice of Duquesne, but he’s done so much more, I mean he had a long extensive history of broadcasting not just Duquesne, but many various other sports in the City of Pittsburgh and the surrounding Western Pennsylvania area,” said Panormios.
"We're deeply saddened to learn of Ray's passing," said Duquesne Interim Director of Athletics John Henderson. "You would be hard-pressed to find a soul who loved Duquesne, and Duquesne basketball, more than Ray Goss. I spent many hours sitting near Ray on the bus traveling to and from road games. I often overheard him on his phone calling his children and sharing their life updates. It was evident Ray loved two things: his family and Duquesne basketball.
Goss was the longest tenured play-by-play announcer in Division I men's basketball.
Born in Carnegie, Goss called his first Dukes game in 1968.
