Two additional women have been charged in connection with the death of 9-year-old Renesmay Eutsey in September for allegedly failing to do anything to stop the abuse that led her death.

Fayette County District Attorney Michael Aubele filed charges against 63-year-old Theresa Marie Shipley, the grandmother of the victim and 51-year-old Sandra Umensetter a friend of the family.

Both face charges of endangering the welfare of children and reckless endangerment. DA Mike Aubele.

“Even from the time this little girl was born she was in and out of the system, parents were removed as custodians, she went to this house and then she suffered there,” Aubele told KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin. “Nine years, she just never had anybody that showed her love that she deserved.”

Aubele says the Umensetter and Shipley had access to Renesmay over the last several months of her life and saw her condition and the condition she was living in “and these two did nothing about it.”

After a preliminary hearing in November, Kourtney Eutsey and Sarah Shipley were held for trial on more than a dozen charges.

The DA later announced plans to seek the death penalty in the case.
