A road at the boarder of Kennedy and Robinson Townships has reopened after a project to fix a landslide that that been causing issues, on and off, for over 15 years.

Aiken Road Extension had been reduced to one lane since 2018 after a landslide was reported. The road connects Steubenville Pike to Clever Road.

10 years before that, a landslide was reported in the same spot, causing traffic issues.

Two stop signs had been placed on the road in both directions to control traffic.

Kennedy Township is responsible for the road and township manager Greg Clarke says they got the ball rolling in 2019, factoring cost, road signage and other requirements from PennDOT.

Then the pandemic hit and the process had to start over again.

The project was completed a week or two earlier than planned, with the original reopening date planned for early May.

PA State Rep. Anita Kulik took a tour of the completed road late last week. Kulik, along with Senator Wayne Fontana, were able to secure some state money to cover part of the cost.
