Quarantined rescue dog exposed to rabies escapes Bridgeville area home
Allegheny County

A rescue dog that was quarantining after a rabies exposure has escaped its home in the Bridgeville area.

Allegheny County says the 3-year-old mixed breed dog has not shown signs of rabies, but was being quarantined because she was rescued along with a dog that tested positive for the disease.

Thirty-four dogs and one cat were rescued in the country of Azerbaijan and brought into the U.S. earlier this month. Amelia and seven other dogs were placed in foster homes in Allegheny County.

She has sandy-colored fur, short legs, cropped ears, a cropped tail and weighs about 25lbs.

Amelia is skittish. Allegheny County health officials urge the public not to approach or try to capture the dog. Instead, call 911, local animal control or the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture at 717-443-1199.
