Friday at sundown marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year and steps are being taken to keep services safe in Pittsburgh.
Rosh Hashanah begins the evening of September 11 and the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh says it's been working for the past two months on enhancing security for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur which begins the evening of September 20.
While there have been no credible threats, Shawn Brokos Director of Community Security for the Federation says, they've been working behind the scenes to make sure a joyous holiday stays that way.
“Whether it’s physical security enhancements or through adding additional armed guards, or law enforcement or just following the intelligence that we monitor closely all the time,” said Brokos.
While there are no direct or indirect threats, there has still been an uptick in anti-Semitic activities in the Greater Pittsburgh area. The measures are to be realistic while not being guided by fear.
