Rothfus on Biden infrastructure plan: 'There's a whole lot more than infrastructure'

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will visit Pittsburgh Thursday to pitch President Joe Biden's infrastructure plan.

"They show the name infrastructure on it, but there's a whole lot more than infrastructure," former U.S. Congressman Keith Rothfus told the KDKA Radio Morning Show Thursday. "The things we think about as infrastructure - roads and bridges and airports - that's a very small part of this massive bill that they've put together."

Rothfus said one feature of the bill would build 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations across the country.

"This is something that the private sector can be doing," said Rothfus. "Gas stations were built out in this country as the automobiles came out 120 years ago. You don't need a big federal program to pick the winners and the losers, and then leave the taxpayers holding the bag."

During a meeting with labor leaders in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Senator Pat Toomey said Biden's bill was too broad and said "I'm not interested in reinventing the word and encompassing everything that the government would like to do."
