School van driver killed in Westmoreland County accident

A school van driver was killed and a teen behind the wheel of an SUV was injured in a collision with a tractor-trailer Friday morning in Westmoreland County.

It happened after 7 a.m. in Salem Township when the school van and SUV were struck by a tractor trailer at the intersection of Routes 22 and 819.

It appears the truck driver ran a red light.

The woman driving the school van has been identified as 60-year-old Rene Davis, of Hempfield Township and was working for DMJ Transportation.

The coroner says the victim had a seatbelt on at the time of the crash.

No students were aboard at the time of the crash.

The 17-year-old driving the SUV was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
