Over 30 years after opening in the North Hills, Chinese, sushi and Thai restaurant Sesame Inn I getting ready for a new beginning.

The popular restaurant is moving from its current location at 711 Browns Lane to The Block Northway.

Connie Cheng, daughter of owner Ken Cheng, tells KDKA Radio the plan is to open The Block location on the 31st anniversary of their first grand opening, February 27.

“However, anyone who has had experience with construction knows that you must expect the unexpected,” Cheng said.

While it will be “bittersweet” to leave the original location, Cheng says, “we're excited that Sesame Inn will be more visible and have more foot traffic.
Everyone at The Block, the team and customers I've met, have been so warm and welcoming. I think being a part of The Block's evolution is going to breathe new life into Sesame inn.”

What can current fans of Sesame Inn and new customers expect?

“For 31 years, Sesame Inn has been home for my family and home to our customers' families, too,” said Cheng. “We might be moving, but our customers can expect that Sesame Inn will remain a home to your memories, holidays, and celebrations--with all your favorite dishes here to stay. With our new location, we think customers will be just as excited as we are about the new look and feel of Sesame Inn. We'll always love our trademark ceiling umbrellas, but the new Sesame Inn received the rejuvenation it deserves--showcasing a modern take on authentic Chinese patterns and designs.”

Keep up to date on the official grand opening here.

Sesame Inn also has a location in Mount Lebanon at 704 Washington Road.
