Shelter In Place order going into effect on Pitt's campus

At least 40 cases reported at the University of Pittsburgh since Friday

Due to increased cases of COVID-19 on campus and in Allegheny County, the University of Pittsburgh will move to a shelter-in place order at Midnight, as well as moving to the "Elevated Risk Posture."

The university has confirmed at least 40 cases on campus since Friday, Pitt officials believe the cases are linked to gatherings that occurred during the Halloween weekend.

"During the shelter-in-place period, students should only leave their rooms or apartments to attend classes, labs or clinicals in person; pick up food; exercise safely; study in the library; work when necessary; and shop for essentials and medical needs. Group work for classes and student activities should be held virtually," the university explained in a post.

Dining on campus will be available by takeout only beginning with breakfast on Monday morning.

An "Elevated Risk Posture" means the following for students:

·        Instruction primarily virtual; some in-person learning

·        Housing open with virus mitigation and isolation interventions in place

·        Some shared spaces open

·        Gatherings capped at 25 people

For faculty and staff:

·        Work from home encouraged wherever possible

·        Those who need to support permitted activities allowed on campus

·        Virtual work encouraged for research personnel; some permitted on campus

Face covering are required inside an outside on campus and physically distancing is necessary.
