South Side crackdown continues by Pittsburgh Police

Increased security will continue on the South Side this weekend, and Pittsburgh Police are prepared to take action.

Pittsburgh Public Safety announced the crackdown on the popular partying neighborhood ahead of Fourth of July weekend as a response to overcrowding, issues with pedestrians, fighting and gun violence.

Director Wendell Hissrich said officers gave out verbal warnings over the holiday weekend, but this weekend, they'll escalate if need be.

"There's gonna be more police officers and there will be citations issued if individuals don't obey the recommendations by the police officers."

He added officers will make arrests, and recommends people begin heading home when bars close at 2 a.m.

Cars illegally parked will also be towed.
