A retired airline pilot from Pittsburgh is sharing his 9/11 memories.
Tim Baker was flying passengers from Philadelphia to Orlando as the attacks were unfolding on September 11, 2001.
The former US Airways captain says the moment when the crew and passengers on Flight 93 decided to resist was pivotal.
“That decision took place, literally, just a few thousand feet over our heads,” said Baker. “So, the final battle of 9/11 took place right above the City of Pittsburgh.”
And Baker said if that had happened a few minutes sooner, the National Memorial would be in the South Hills instead of Shanksville, “because that flight path went right over our homes and we were literally underneath the frontlines of the fight.”
Baker waited to inform the passengers on his aircraft about the attacks until landing in Florida.
