The PRT Board today approved its new budget, and the 539 million dollar spending plan includes the 35 percent service reduction and nine percent fare increase that had been the subject of multiple hearings.

PRT CEO Katherine Kelleman says the budget was approved today to meet a mandated deadline and she remains hopeful that a long term solution could be in place.

She believes PRT can still adjust the budget during the fiscal year to avert both of them.

However, state lawmakers say the chances of getting the state's budget passed by Monday's deadline are slim to none. In part, because Harrisburg is trying to determine what it will be getting from Washington as the President's so called Big Beautiful Bill is still being considered by the Senate.

Transit funding is a key part of Governor Shapiro's budget proposal, including $40 million for PRT.
