The next time you're watching a Pittsburgh special on WQED Television by the legendary Rick Sebak, you can pour yourself a glass of The Rick Sebak Cocktail to enjoy along with it.
Independent Brewing Company in Squirrel Hill is making the beverage available in 6-ounce to-go bottles. Previously, the drink was only available on special occasions.
The Rick Sebak Cocktail is made with bonded bourbon, maple syrup, and chocolate mole bitters.
Sebak tells KDKA Radio, “I really like it. It’s pretty similar to an old-fashioned, but with maple syrup, and that’s a good idea. And if lending my name to a cool cocktail helps a great little bar stay in business, I say Yes. Sharing profits with WQED is like icing on the cake. Or maybe like the olive in the martini?”
"The guys at the Independent surprised me back in 2015 when they said they had named a drink after me. I was astounded and honored," said Sebak in a released statement. "I had just made my Breakfast Special programs for PBS, and they had an alternate name for the drink as well: 'A Gentleman’s Breakfast.' I remember it was garnished with orange peel and a small chunk of candied bacon."
Sales from the bottle will benefit WQED as $2 from each bottle sold will go to the Pittsburgh PBS station.
Bottles will be available starting May 1 at the brewery. You can also purchase them online here.
