Governor Tom Wolf is defending his $21.5 million plan to provide a free school breakfast for all students in the Commonwealth this year.
Some say the Universal Free Breakfast Program promotes big government, But on the Big K Morning Show, Governor Tom Wolf told Larry and Marty nutrition is an important part of a child's education.
"One of the things that really gets kids to go to school, which is really what we all want them to do, is the food. In some cases, kids are going to school hungry. We need kids to learn and if they have an empty stomach, they cannot learn."
The program goes into effect October 1st and runs through the end of the 2022-23 school year.
