PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is running around ragged in December.
PennDOT has a handful of maintenance projects set to start on Friday, Dec. 11, and many of them will use traffic restrictions.
The Fort Pitt Tunnel will be undergoing maintenance activities on Friday and will go through the morning of Saturday, Dec. 12.
One-lane cutdowns will be used bidirectionally in the tunnel starting at 7 p.m and going through noon on Saturday.
As for the actual work, maintenance crews will install temporary lighting for eventual switchgear replacement at the tunnel.
PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists to use caution while traveling through the tunnel — there will be a reduction in lighting.
Moving on, PennDOT is also set to begin sewer line repair on Route 65 in Emsworth.
This project will also be starting on Friday, Dec. 11, weather permitting.
Single-lane reductions will be used in both directions on Route 65 between Camp Horne Road and Locust Street.
Work will start at 9 p.m. and continue through 6 a.m. on Saturday.
Third on the docket is Route 3034 Chartiers Street in Bridgeville; drone survey work will be conducted by PennDOT starting on Friday, Dec. 11, and Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 14 and 15.
Single-lane alternating traffic flow will be done from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on each day, and they will be established between Washington Pike (Route 50) and Bank Street.
PennDOT will also create additional restrictions on Lesnett Road (Route 3034) between Bank Street and Sarah Street.
PennDOT has also announced a weeklong traffic restriction project on East Carson Street (Route 837).
The work will begin on Monday, Dec. 14 and go until Sunday, Dec. 20 but only during the nights.
Maintenance will occur between South 17th Street and South 19th Street and will occur from 6 p.m. until 4 a.m each night.
The crews will be operating on waterline repairs.
As a public service announcement, this work is being done within the same geography as the East Carson Street Improvement Project, but PennDOT will not be involved in this work, in actuality.
And last but not least, the Department of Public Works announced lane restrictions scheduled to take place on the Patton Street Bridge.
Restrictions will also be established underneath the bridge on Wall Avenue and Avenue U in Wilmerding.
These changes will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17, and the work is expected to be completed on Tuesday, Dec. 22.
The bridge will be undergoing an inspection.
There will be flaggers present to help drivers safely traverse through the zone.
