Treasurer of local Parent-Teacher Organization charged with stealing thousands

The treasurer of a Westmoreland County Parent-Teachers Organization is charged with pocketing tens of thousands of dollars.

35-year-old Darshanna Truss is accused of misappropriating $46,000 from the Fort Allen Elementary School PTO.

Detectives say a year into her tenure as treasurer, in 2024, the PTO started to notice a significant drop in funds in the group's checking account.

They say 48 checks, totaling more than 28-thousand dollars were made out to Truss, as well as 30 others totaling more than $17,000.

Investigators say Truss allegedly deposited the checks into her personal bank account with a mobile app.
