Three trending stories that caught our attention this week include:
- The Police making numerous drug arrests in Downtown Pittsburgh are being undermined by some judges quickly releasing people, some with long rap sheets. The mayor often says "it takes all of us" to successfully address crime. It's less likely to happen without judicial cooperation.
- Students in 38 Pittsburgh Public school buildings were learning remotely on Tuesday and Wednesday because of highs in excess of 85 degrees. Remote learning is unhelpful because it results in learning loss and parents must scramble to find a sitter or call off work on short notice. How can the school district not budget for fans in schools without air conditioning?
- There's talk of offering ten-dollar coupons to entice people to eat lunch Downtown. Restaurants are doing well during dinner hours, but lunch is lagging. It's being tried in Columbus and Pittsburgh should do the same.
