A Restaurant in Squirrel Hill has been ordered closed by the Allegheny County Health Department after an inspection.

The Turkish Kebab House on Forbes Avenue was written up for several violations.

High risk violations include, A bag of grain in an upstairs storage room at rodent droppings fall out of chew holes, three bags of couscous had head holes from rodents and one had droppings inside the bag along with three bags of pita with chew holes.

Rodent droppings were found on multiple levels of the restaurant and what inspectors believed to be German cockroaches was seen near a grease trap and in the kitchen.

Medium risks: Moldy produced was seen upstairs by a nearby cooler and dented food cans were found with “crimped seams and side forming sharp edges: not swollen.”

Ready to eat foods had no discard dates.

Raw ground chicken was in a “loose covered” container stored above raw falafel.

Fruit flies “too numerous to count” were seen coming from a bag of onions in the basement.

Other medium and low risk violations were observed as well.

In total, 14 violations were documented.

As of November 7, the county’s website still has the location ordered closed.

Two other locations, Selami’s Turkish Kebab House in Shadyside and Aspendoes Turkish Kebab House in Mt. Lebanon are not affected by the closure and are operating as normal.
