Two medics were taken to the hospital with minor injuries Monday morning after their ambulance crashed on the Parkway North during a winter storm that dropped several inches of snow on the region.
Ross/West View EMSA says the ambulance was transporting a patient with a medical emergency when it slid in the snow into the adjacent lane and hit another car.
The patient and a family member were taken to the hospital in another ambulance. Neither were injured in the crash. The driver of the car was also not injured.
The two medics were taken to Allegheny General Hospital. Ross/West View EMSA says both were discharged and are home.
"We share this story because we want folks to understand how dangerous our job can be and the additional challenges that weather brings to an already demanding and risky profession," the agency said in a social media post. "If you don't need to be on the roads today, please stay home. If you see our crews or any public safety folks working on the roadways, please slow down and move over. Give them plenty of space to safely do their jobs."
Snow fell rapidly in southwestern Pennsylvania Sunday evening into Monday morning, causing treacherous road conditions across the region.
