Charges have been filed against two men in connection with a deadly school van crash in September that killed 15-year-old Serra Catholic High School Student Samantha Kalkbrenner.
Allegheny County Police have arrested 43-year-old William Soliday III and 37-year-old Andrew Voigt after it was determined the two were racing at speeds up to 100 mph across the Mansfield Bridge toward the crash site of Richland Avenue and 3rd Street in Dravosburg.
The school van that Kalkbrenner was in was hit by a Volkswagen Jetta GTI, driven by Soliday, at speeds around 90 mph.
A dark colored Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, operated by Voigt, was seen driving through the intersection right after the crash.
Police say both men worked at a business about a quarter of a mile from the crash site.
Soliday faces charges of 3rd degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and homicide by vehicle.
Voigt faces a felony county of accident involving death/person injury and several misdemeanors.
Both men were taken to Allegheny County jail pending a preliminary arraignment.
Along with Kalkbrenner, three other students were in the van at the time. They were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The driver of the fan was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police say the driver did check each direction multiple time before driving into the intersection to make a left hand turn from 3rd Street onto Richland Avenue.
