Police have arrested and charged two men with criminal homicide in connection with a shooting on the North Side that killed three people last month. They also believe they are looking for a third shooter.
21-year-old Jaylone Hines and 19-year-old Charron Troutman, both of Pittsburgh, are now in the Allegheny County Jail facing multiple charges.
Hines is facing two counts of criminal homicide for the deaths of Betty Averytt and Jacquelyn Mihalic, both of whom were bystanders during the Oct. 15 shooting.
The third victim, John Hornezes Jr., is believed to be involved in the shooting.
Police believe the shooting was gang related.
According to a criminal complaint, police used surveillance footage to determine what happened.
Police say Troutman was a passenger in a black Hyundai Tucson, which was parked in a Sunoco parking lot on Cedar Ave. Hines is allegedly seen standing across from the car, when Troutman pulls a gun from his waistband. Hines then runs into a nearby park. As the Tucson pulls out of the Sunoco parking lot, Hines, Hornezes and a third, unknown shooter are seen firing at the car.
The unknown shooter gets into a Hyundai Palisade, which drives off.
Police say both the driver of the Tucson and Troutman are seen firing back. The driver has not been charged as of Wednesday morning.
Police believe Averytt and Mehalic were standing nearby when they were hit and killed in the crossfire.
Hornezes was later pronounced dead at the hospital after police found him shot near a playground. Police continue to investigate a shooting in Brighton Heights outside his funeral Friday that injured six people.
Hines was the fourth person injured in the North Side shooting. He walked into the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.
