Authorities began investigations on the residence after a fire was reported on July 28, and multiple cats were seen.

On Thursday, police and Animal Care Control retrieved at least 24 cats and kittens from within the residence living in deplorable conditions.

The owner was on the scene and surrendered the animals.

The animals were taken to the Humane Animal Rescue on the North Side.

The Red Cross was called to assist the residents of the home after it was declared condemned by the Department of Permits Licenses.

There is an open investigation into the situation and charges are pending.
