The world lost a true icon earlier this week when Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80 following a brief cancer battle. She was a true American success story, going from a two-room home with her parents and 11 siblings to becoming a music and entertainment megastar.
A favorability poll conducted earlier this year [by the University of Massachusetts and You Gov] showed Dolly was, far and away, the most popular figure on the planet, beating the second-place finisher by over 50 points.
Part of what made Dolly so unique was her popularity on both sides of the political aisle. She was beloved by everyone.
While she is known for her music and movies, her philanthropy will be her lasting legacy. Through her Imagination Library, Dolly donated over 270 million books worldwide, including more than three hundred and six thousand in Pittsburgh since 2019 to children 5 and younger.
Her loss is being felt by people of all ages and backgrounds in Pittsburgh and around the world.
Dolly wrote “I will always love you”, but this time it is KDKA Radio saying “WE will always love you…Dolly.”
