Wegmans construction kicks off this month

Pittsburgh's Headlines: July 8, 2026

We’re learning a little more about the highly-anticipated first Pittsburgh-area Wegmans store.

A representative for Wegmans confirms to KDKA Radio that the company recently received a building permit and plans to begin construction on the store in July.

“We plan to begin foundations on the building this month,” Marcie Rivera with Wegmans Public Relations says.

Once construction begins, “we’ll have a better idea of the timeline for the project overall,” added Rivera.

In previous estimates, Wegmans has set an opening date of the 115,000-square-foot store being built on a 13-acre site sometime in 2027.

Like other Wegmans locations, the Cranberry story will have grocery, a large selection of prepared foods, beer, wine and more.

Wegman's operates over 110 stores along the East Coast with over 54,000 employees and $12.5 billion in annual sales.

The chain was founded in Rochester, New York in 1916.

It was reported in April that Wegmans could be eyeing a second location in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh.
