PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — Allegheny County announced on Twitter earlier Friday that the strong winds in the area were causing interference with 911 emergency calls.
The county is aware of the interruptions and has tweeted a makeshift solution to make sure that all emergencies can get through to dispatchers.
Some callers have not been able to make contact, so the center for the calls will be using a backup 10-digit number to ensure that all individuals can reach responders.
The backup number is 412-473-3056.
Keep in mind: the 10-digit number is a failsafe.
Use 911 on first attempts, and use the backup if the call fails to connect.
