Autism Urban Connections Inc., founded in September 2018, is the first and only African American, minority, family focused Autism 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Jamie Upshaw had questions when she saw something wasn't right with her son who at an early age, started showing signs of autism. Many of the programs that she went to, didn't give her the peace she needed as a black mother to a black son who also has autism.
So, she started her own! Autism Urban Connections Inc. provides support services, education, advocacy, self-care and empowerment, exist to make your life easier and stress free.
I've personally watched Jamie work hard to make sure AUC answers the call from other parents like her and provide whatever they need.
It may not be a big deal to most but it's a blessing to many. Having a son who is black and also has autism, can be a nightmare for a parent.
Hear more about her journey and all the great things Autism Urban Connections is doing for this week's What's Good In Your Hood.
