PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) — The County has dropped a new update on the vote-counting procedure in Allegheny.

The Return Board is still working its way through military and overseas ballots, but expectations are that they will be completed “shortly.”

But another tedious step is up next.

The Elections Division will start sorting through mail-in ballots that were either incorrect or had been corrected prior to the election.

The Division will have to categorize votes from individuals who sent in both a correct and incorrect ballot.

During this segment of the process, the Division will discern ballots of various conditions and allocate them based on four distinct possibilities:

1. If the correct ballot is sufficient, it will move forward for processing
2. If the correct ballot is not sufficient, it and the incorrect ballot will be forwarded to the Return Board for processing
3. If only a correct ballot was returned, it will move forward for processing
4. If only an incorrect ballot was returned, it will be forwarded to the Return Board for processing.

Friday’s mail saw the arrival of 113 new ballots, and 64 of them met the necessary criteria to be counted.

1,045 ballots were received over the past three days that met the prerequisites; 947 were able to be counted.

Furthermore, the Division has released the results of ballots that did not scan properly along with a majority of the overseas and military votes.

Of the ballots listed in the newest batch, there were 5,345 total votes added.

In the general election, 4,134 of those votes went to Joe Biden and 1,076 were tallied for Donald Trump.
