A 17-year-old was arrested Thursday after an online threat to Pittsburgh Public School Pittsburgh Milliones.
Police found an AK-47 and two pistols on him, but was still released to family after his arrest.
Pittsburgh Chief of Police Larry Scirotto says even the suspect is a “serious threat” their hands are tied.
“It’s the fact that there aren’t any housing for juveniles that show a clear and obvious threat to our community,” said Scirotto. “Without a detention center without available beds, we know that this juvenile is a serious threat to the health and wellbeing of every member of our community and yet we can not place them in a facility to mitigate that harm.”
Police also executed a search warrant at a residence in the hill district and were able to recover evidence that aligned with the juvenile's social media post and found a magazine and rounds of ammunition.
An 18-year-old was also arrested in the incident. Jackiel Young had a pistol with a 50-round magazine, switch to make a Glock fully automatic, ammo and marijuana.
Young is in the Allegheny County Jail, facing several charges.
