On Wednesday, charges were filed against former UPMC employee Chante Cantave for allegedly misusing over $410,000 worth of UPMC Presbyterian Hospital Pharmacy funds for personal benefit.

Cantave's charges include theft by unlawful taking, criminal attempt, receiving stolen property and unlawful use of a computer.

Following an investigation by the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office, it was discovered that Cantave began making unrelated UPMC purchases in July 2020, ordering approximately 2,673 items.

The supervisors became aware of suspicious purchases in December 2023, confronted Cantave, which she denied, and the 28-year-old, Penn Hills native has since been suspended from employment at UPMC.
