In three weeks, the final WPIAL championships of the 2024-25 school year will take place at EQT Park and PennWest University, California’s Lilley Field with six baseball and six softball champions to be crowned. The pursuit of a WPIAL championship begins with fields of at least 150 teams entering the WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Baseball & Softball Championships presented by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday, May 12.
The anticipation and excitement of learning the opponents, speculation of how the brackets will take shape, and spirited debate of teams’ seedings is all part of the magic of Western Pennsylvania high school baseball and softball.
Much like it was for the 2024 football and 2025 basketball playoffs, the anticipation, excitement, and wonder culminate at an exclusive destination: KDKA Radio.
As the flagship station and official radio home of the WPIAL, KDKA Radio is pleased to announce WPIAL/KDKA Selection Friday.
On Friday, May 9 at 2:00 p.m., KDKA Radio’s audio and video platforms will be the only destination for schools, student-athletes, their respective communities, and fan bases to learn of their baseball postseason destinations. Playoff pairings, seedings, locations, and game times will be revealed on the KDKA Radio platforms. The show will also review and discuss the softball postseason brackets, which will be released by the league at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8.
"The WPIAL playoffs are the most exciting time of the year,” said Audacy Pittsburgh Senior Vice President and Market Manager Michael Spacciapolli. “As the flagship station and official radio home of the WPIAL, we are thrilled to provide the baseball and softball brackets on KDKA Radio.
