WVU Assistant Coach Noel Devine Jr. was arrested over the weekend and charged with felony strangulation.
He was booked on Sunday with bail set at $40,000. Devine's preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 23.
The 38-year-old, once a Mountaineers running back, has been on West Virginia's staff since 2025 as assistant running backs coach and offensive analyst.
In a statement, Head Coach Rich Rodriguez said Devine is on leave indefinitely.

“Upon receiving information of the arrest, I have immediately and indefinitely put Noel Devine on leave from the Mountaineer football coaching staff. Any future decision on his status will be determined after more information becomes available."
